and Obelisk shaped ticket
Notes from Stream of Consciousness Exercise

Similarities between mine and Phoebe's notes were the futuristic element of the film, the themes of space and travel, as well as robotics.

Mine and phoebe's initial ideas:
1. We are altering the seating to portray the chronological element of the film by getting everyone to sit in chronological order.
2. We are taking the food from the film and recreating as the snacks for film.
3. Upon entering the screening, Hal will be displayed on screen, welcoming audience to cinema and directing to seats [see idea 1].
4. Continuing the simplicity of the film, the screening will have no food or drink, to reduce interruptions.
5. Taking the nonexistent vibe of the film, the tickets will be completely black. The parallelogram shape would also represent the obelisk.
6. When exiting, stargate can be displayed covering the whole room with intent soundtrack.
7. We are creating a QR code to continue the idea of technology. Could link to soundtrack, or black screen (!!), or computer malfunction.

Group Presentation of Ideas:

Idea 1 - Abi and Tom
Ticket based on utopian setting of film. Back of ticket - asking how they wold make the screening perfect. Answers could be turned into the zine.
Crit - Idea is effective as a way of getting feedback. Could just be used as information instead of turning into a product. This could be a part of the ticket to rip off so they can keep the ticket.
Pros and cons: - The idea of feedback within the tickets is a good idea. Though doesn’t necessarily need to be a zine.
- Utopian - links to futuristic element of the film, but the films plot points aren’t about utopianism.

Contributions for development: Instead of zine, simply collect feedback for reflection. Zine feels too much for displaying feedback.
How to print tickte, and ticket size are things to consider going forward.

Idea 2 - Ruby and Emily
Hal orders people where to sit. There is a QR code that send your phone to content such as maps or something, or black screen etc.
Crit - making code and getting people to get it could be a risk and not as effective as we want. Hal projection getting people to sit down in certain places could take too long, adding even more time onto an already long film.

Pros and Cons: links to the idea of the characters within 2001 a space odyssey.
Negative: hard to create to a functional level.
Why is the zine needed? - zine could include ticket. It was just the idea to download something, link to technology.

Contributions for development: Have the download relate to ticket, instead of a zine.
Have the download shut the phone down to relate to the idea of malfunctioning - practical issues with this?

Idea 3 - Louis and Ewan
Using multiple projectors to display film. Computer malfunction as people come in. Two screens, one the film and one malfunction of both the film. Old TV displaying hal, welcoming people?
Crit - makes film more immersive
Rationale for idea: Using multiple projectors to screen 2001 a space odyssey, one showing the film in its entirety. One showing imagery form the film. More specifically the “Computer Malfunction” screen monitor from the film. Or alternatively, using a small analogue TV set placed below the projection to show the “computer Malfunction” scene.
Positives: simple but effective, immersive experience. Implements other peoples ideas as well.
negatives: have to work out the logistics of screening in the corner of the room.

Contributions for development: Think about the way people are sitting around the screen, have in the same configurations as the spaceship (3 diagonal lines to further the feeling of isolation)?
Might be impractical to have hal's voice. He could simply be there watching the audience during the screening.

Idea 4 - Phoebe and Evie

Rationale: Taking the nonexistent, simplistic vibe of the film, the tickets will be completely black with shiny black print displaying information. The parallelogram shape would also represent the obelisk. The text will follow this shape, also relating to the poster. The red tint of the biro replicates the red rectangle (in scene 39:33) arrival of the business man.

Using the obelisk as a design motif to implement into a ticket design. Displaying ticket information on black ink on black, thick, card.
Pros: black on black is effective at demonstrating the nonexistent theme throughout the film. Cons: The shape isn’t that recognisable as the obelisk, everyone remembers it differently depending on which scene from the film had most impact.
Contributions for development: Idea of embossing into black card. Have same effect of printing in black but more polished?
Reconsider the shape of ticket, does it ned to be parallelogram or could it be traditional?

Development of Ideas:

Ticket development from Tom and Abi, included the idea of black on black printing, for the ambiguity of the ticket. Also allows us to jumble up the order people sit in the screening so their not going to be with their friends. Furthers the idea of isolation.
They tested white on black printing as well, it looks really professional but it didn't have as much impact as the black ink.
We also decided the idea of feedback would be really beneficial to our project, as we can see what the audience thought, but we felt it didn't need to be turned into a zine as the audience for this aspect was us. We're simply going to collate the feedback after is order to reflect and evaluate.

For the screening:

arrangement for the screening
Include Hal 9000 on old TV watching the audience during the whole film, increasing intensity. Has a sort of 'big brother' effect. - Need to burn onto CD to play during film duration.
Have gifs presenting the 'computer malfunction' flickering to imbed feeling of unsteadiness within the audience, combined with Hal 9000 could be really effective.
Think about the positioning of the audience and how to increase the feelings on loneliness within them - have in diagonal rows, sitting alone.
