Tutor Feedback + Existing Resources Research

Helping people fix bikes

Simple diagrams of the bike parts - keeping things hand drawn, don't have access to a bike to take photos, would have a more personal aesthetic, find image online a trace them.
Present the info as a cooking recipe, what you need etc - look back at previous paper cuts (need to consider the colour palette).
Thinking of the 'tasty' videos, birds eye view showing the process of fixing a bike.

Issues to discuss on Instagram:
  • Puncture
  • Snapped chain
  • Bike maintenance
  • Safe places to leave your bike
  • Safest ways to lock your bike
Could include gifs and instructional videos on the Instagram.
Show how ideas work on Instagram.

Could produce a kit after Easter holiday to accompany the Instagram - way to develop it further.
Stickers of tools could be made for the bikes.

Halfords

 - Have a lot of resources for people learning how to take care of their bike.
 - Website is a little clunky on finding the right information, it isn't readily available you have to search for ti.
 - The design is very typical of halfords, videos are shot in store, very much a branded presentation.

Personal Websites

 - There were some personal websites/blogs set up by cyclists which had informative posts.
 - One found was on a site called instructables, posted by Dan. The website was a lot more casual than halfords while remaining really informative.
 - The photographs on this website were clear, but a video could've be useful as the process of fixing a chain can be very complicated.

Instagram Accounts

 - There weren't many instagram accounts that promoted bike maintenance, most were bloggers or people who use their bikes a lot.
 - One account called @fixmybike was actively posting, but their account was based less on maintenance and more on the types of bikes as well as the lifestyle.
 - There was a game in the market to create a simple, and informative instagram account that was easily accessible, and could be used by people of all abilities.

Facebook

- Weren't many pages showing any advice that could be given to cyclists right then and there.
- Most pages were advertising a business an individual could go to to have their bike service or get advice.
- Not the best place to look for bike advice, however there were a lot of post off people's personal accounts asking for help with issues they're having and people are active in responding in the comments.
