Animation Research and Tests

Feedback mentioned numerous times about having animations within the instagram, this would take advantage of the digital platform.

Honda paper ad, shows how paper and drawing can be used to develop an animation (link to ad), it demonstrates a new way of animating in a innovative way. Everything in the ad is shot by camera and pieced together.
Thinking about how our animations could be developed, with a similar aesthetic to the existing illustrations. The stop motion element to the animation would allow for the photos to be edited to ensure the colours were consistent with the rest of the images on the account.

Tasty Animations have a consistent design composition, they're filled overhead which provides a clear visual identity.

The overhead aspect makes it clear to see what's going on, this would also compliment the format for the Instagram.
The instructions over the top as well could be something to add, but think about that could impact the visuals, and whether it's necessary - could include just the step numbers for when they change to be a guide.

When thinking about own animations taking the inspiration from paper being included, but using a style more similar to the illustrations already on the Instagram.

Story boarding the steps to be shot for the animation, thinking about what design would work best.
Had a lot of difficulty figuring out the chain animation as the process involved such small details that were altered within the process. Thinking about whether to shoot the animation from a birdseye view or as it would be looked at. Looked online but images were in short supply.
Decided on doing a side on view as the birds eye view would be more difficult to follow as well as animate. With a side view the tool used will also look the same as the title page on the instagram to avoid any confusion.

Used my camera to develop a storyboard to follow for the snapped chain as it was difficult to make with the drawings only:

This made it much easier to plan out the animation rather than drawing every by hand, sped up the process and was easier to follow.

  • This animation involved paper being physically manipulated by someone's hands, it ties in the photographs used at the bottom of the Instagram.
  • The final product would look more clean, need to make sure the lighting is consistent throughout the video (get lights from photography).
  • Having photographs taken instead of a video allows for the photos to be edited so the colours can be adjusted slightly.
