Developments of Instagram Slides

Instagram needed something to be more developed, Eleanor had been working on the animations for the daily, monthly, annual checks (see below). Needed to develop the imagery for the step by step as they were more plain than other slides.

The Instagram was coming together small details were being altered to see what fit better and what didn't. Below you can see the alteration of the colour of paper used to show the tools needed. The blue works better with the over appearance, but more colour would need to be added to develop it more.

Thinking about looking at bikes and the patterns on bikes, how could these be developed into imagery to be used on the slides.

Taking the imagery and tracing the patterns found within the different elements of the bike, small details provided a lot of development.

  • Testing the different patterns with the colour and various weight
  • Works well as white on blue, better than black on blue, as it makes the colour appear more vibrant.
  • Also works well as blue on white, has a similar impact on the colour.
  • The more modular shapes (zig-zag and cube design) could be good to use as they're able to be moved around the text, has more ability to move.
  • The alternating lines is too complicated, would distract from the text, the design needs too compliment the text, not distract as the overall aim is to inform.

  • The shapes worked best when more simple, the lighter stoke weight meant it was more similar to the illustrations on the instagram.
  • The angled zig-zag had a more harsh appearance, it wasn't as playful, it didn't compliment the easy going nature of the rest of the illustrations.
  • Made the zig zags have a curve to them, appeared more friendly, worked well with the text too.
  • The cubes looked good as a modular shape, however they don't interact with the text as well as the zig zag, they didn't appear to resemble anything from bikes either.
  • The curved zig zag developments looked as though something had moved through the page - think about how this could be advanced through the use of digital media, do you want it to animate also? would this be too much?
Finalising the designs, thinking about how to use the format of instagram to my advantage.
People post panoramic images on instagram where you can swipe in an album to reveal more of the image (see below)

Think about having a similar thing on the instagram, making the shapes continue across the page.

Developed it so the first two images (that you'll see on the instagram) connect and then the images, within each album also connect.

Thinking about colour scheme, a crit with the tutors suggested that picking a colour from the previous paperstock and incorporate into the colour into the pages.

These were the final colours decided for the Instagram account, they're based off of the loop lock labels as well as the coloured paper from the original papercut design.

This was a colour also tested, but appeared
too similar to the existing blue colour.
This is how the instagram looks currently, need
to ass some details to develop further.

What to do next:

  • Develop imagery for animations, think about using paper cut and stop motion techniques
  • Produce a consistent colour for the pink, print from CMYK in digital print?
  • Make the things you'll need page have the same colours as the step by step lines.
