Drawswords

Drawswords is a design company run by one individual.
The work ethic of the company is very his way or the highway, quite different to the Studio Dumbar visit. The company demanded printing companies to alter their methosd of printing to achieve the desired effect. It was a new and interesting way of listening to someone talk about their own work. Very refreshing.

  • It was the front cover configuration that gravitated me to this piece, it was a unique way of presenting information.
  • The image on the cover had been overlaid on the printer, creating a really interesting effect when viewed up close. This again was due to a discussion with the printing company.
  • The very neat and tidy design was bound with a harsh metal bar, this really complimented the metallic effect of the image on the front. However over time the binding became loose and appeared less polished.
    - Definitely think about the longevity of methods used to produce each deliverable.

  • This book was a conversation between 4 people. The contents page said the individuals names across the top and this became a bench mark for where their speech was placed on the page.
  • This way of presenting a conversation was so simple yet very effective. Small alterations to the layout of a publication can have a large impact on the tone of voice, as well as how the audience will read the text. In this instance I read each person's text in a different voice, when normally they'd all sound the same (in my head).
    - Think about how layout can influence the work, and how it can manipulate the audience to think what you want them to.
